According to Trend Micro, the number of criminal incidents is skyrocketing. Globally, the number of critical vulnerabilities has doubled since 2021

With the emblematic data of a 300% increase in malware attacks compared to 2021, Italy confirms itself as one of the countries most affected by cybercriminals in the world. The data emerges from " Rethinking Tactics: 2022 annual cybersecurity report" (DOWNLOAD THE FULL REPORT HERE) , Trend Micro Research 's report on cyber threats that have affected over the past year.

Italy fourth country in the world for malware attacks

The study reveals that Italy is the fourth country in the world and the first in Europe most affected by malware , the same positions it occupied also in 2021 and which it therefore confirms for the second year in a row. On the podium Japan, the United States, and India. 
The total number of malware intercepted in Italy in 2022 is 246,941,068: in 2021 it had been 62,371,693. 
Italy is also the sixth country in the world most affected by macro malware , with 17,400 attacks (last year there were 6,861), while it is fourth in the ranking in Europe, preceded by the Netherlands, France and Germany, for ransomware (at world is thirteenth).

Lotus Panda Hacks SE Asian Governments With Browser Stealers and Sideloaded Malware

The China-linked cyber espionage group tracked as Lotus Panda has been attributed to a campaign that compromised multiple organizations in an unnamed Southeast Asian country between August 2024 and February 2025. "Targets included a government ministry, an air traffic control organization, a telecoms operator, and a construction company," the Symantec Threat Hunter Team said in a new report shared with The Hacker News. "The attacks involved the use of multiple new custom tools, including loaders, credential stealers, and a reverse SSH tool." The intrusion set is also said to have targeted a news agency located in another country in Southeast Asia and an air freight organization located in another neighboring country.
